- Most plastic can be recycled. The widely acceptable plastic for recycling is the HDPE 2 and PETE 1 types of plastic. You can find the type of plastic near the recycling symbol on your plastic. If your plastic has a recycle symbol on it, that does not mean it can be recycled.
- Some plastic items are not recyclable. Such items include tupperware, laundry baskets, empty motor oil containers, toys and aseptic boxes (drink boxes). Any plastic that has held any hazardous material cannot be recycled. Ask your local recycle center for the details on what they do and do not accept.
- Rinse all plastic before putting it in to be recycled. Depending on the recycling center, you may or may not have to take of labels or the lid.
